Microsoft has announced a new London hub for its consumer AI division, to be led by Jordan Hoffmann, a former DeepMind and Inflection scientist. Hoffmann was poached from Inflection by Microsoft after it invested in the startup last year. He will be reporting directly to Mustafa Suleyman, founder of Inflection and now head of Microsoft's consumer AI division. The new unit will focus on developing language models and associated infrastructure. Microsoft is also investing 2.5 billion ($3.15 billion) in the U.K. over the next three years for AI research and training.
