Microsoft faced a security lapse where internal files and credentials were exposed on an open and publicly accessible storage server hosted on Azure cloud. The unprotected server contained scripts, configuration files, and passwords used by Microsoft employees for accessing internal databases and systems. Hackers could have identified other storage locations and potentially caused significant data leaks or service compromises. Security researchers from SOCRada discovered the issue in February and Microsoft secured it in March. The extent of the exposure duration and unauthorized access is unknown.
