Google is developing custom Arm-based CPUs, named Axion, to support its AI workloads and challenge competitors like Microsoft and Amazon. Axion chips are already powering Google services and will be available for Google Cloud customers later this year. Google's Axion CPU offers better performance than general-purpose Arm chips and Intels existing processors. In addition, Google is updating its Tensor Processing Units (TPU) AI chips for larger and more demanding generative models. This move enables Google to reduce its reliance on Intel and Nvidia while competing with them in the custom chip market.
