Apple has announced that it will allow customers and independent repair shops to use used components for iPhone repairs starting this fall. Previously, only components that didn't require configuration could be harvested from used devices. now includes batteries, displays, and cameras. The feature is available solely for the iPhone 15 line due to limited interoperability between models. Apple defends its configuration process, known as parts pairing, which has been criticized as stifling user-repairability. However, it will allow the system to effectively verify that used batteries are genuine.
